As stated in the Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), this refers to hot and humid weather.
According to the Book of Rites (Liji), specifically the Monthly Ordinances (Yueling) chapter: The earth is moist and the heat is humid.
Also defined in the Erudite Essays (Boya) as wet.
As stated in the River Rhapsody (Jiangfu) by Guo Pu: The forests are all soaked.
It also means thick or rich in flavor.
According to the Book of Rites (Liji), in the Conduct of Scholars (Ruxing) chapter: His food and drink are not rich. The commentary states that indulging in rich flavors is called ru, and ru means desire. The sub-commentary states that this means food and drink should be simple and not rich or thick.
It is also the name of a river.
According to the Biography of King Mu, Son of Heaven (Mu Tianzi Zhuan): On the day of yiyou, the Son of Heaven drank by the Ru River.
