According to the Sound of Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Comprehensive Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), the pronunciation is qian. It is the same as the character qian. In the Preface to the Cloud-Gathering Poem (Qianyun Pian) by Su Shi: Cloud vapor drifts from the mountains; one gathers it with the hands, opens a cage to store it inside, and upon returning home, the vapor fills the cage. When the cage is opened to release the vapor, this poem was written.
According to the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is ku jian. The meaning is the same. According to the Sound of Rhymes (Jiyun), the pronunciation is jiu jian, which is the same as the sound of jian. It is the same as the character used to describe taking. According to the Dialects (Fangyan) by Yangzi, it means to take. In the southern Chu region, it is called qian. According to the Book of Liezi, in the Tianrui chapter, it refers to gathering mugwort grass.
