Pronounced pei.
As stated in the Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters (Shuowen), it refers to congealed blood.
As stated in Basic Questions (Suwen), if the red color resembles congealed blood, the condition is fatal.
The commentary notes that congealed blood refers to decayed and stagnant blood that has clumped together, appearing red and black in color.
Pronounced fou. The meaning is the same.
Pronounced pei. Refers to an embryo, the beginning of a thing not yet fully formed. Sometimes written in a variant form using the blood radical.
Pronounced fu. A type of grass.
As stated in the Book of Odes (Shijing), in the Chen Wind section, it says: "Looking at you as if you were the qiao plant."
The sub-commentary explains that qiao is also known as pi-pei.
