Ancient character. According to the Wide Rhymes (Guangyun), pronounced mi. According to the Discussion of Writing (Shuowen), it means thin silk. Xu Kai says: That which is produced by one silkworm is called a hu, and ten hu make one si. Silk is five hu. Also, according to the Extensive Refinements (Boya), it means tiny. According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it means small. Also, according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced xinzi. Silk is sometimes abbreviated as this character.
