Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters): The support piece atop a pillar.
Xu states: Today we refer to the stems of flower buds at the tips of plant branches as fu. This lu resembles that shape, which corresponds to the modern dougong (bracket set).
Huainanzi (Book of the Master of Huainan): The short ones are used as dwarf pillar supports and brackets.
Also a name for a fruit.
Lüshi Chunqiu (Master Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals): Among the fine fruits, there are sweet lu found east of Jishan mountain, in the region of Qingdao.
Sometimes written in a simplified variant form (lu).
Sima Xiangru, Shanglin Fu (Rhapsody on the Imperial Park): The lu orange ripens in summer.

One name is huanglu, another name is yanglu.
Bencao Shiyi (Compendium of Materia Medica Additions): Huanglu grows in the mountain valleys of Shangluo and the border of Sichuan.
Tang Bencao (Tang Materia Medica): Yanglu, also known as kongshu, is found everywhere. It grows among hedges and fences, and its seeds form pods.
