According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to unevenness. When a person's affairs do not proceed smoothly, it is called kan-ke (uneven or bumpy). It is also written in the variant form ke.
It also refers to the name of a pavilion. In the state of Liang, within Ningling, there is a pavilion called Ke.

In Yang Xiong's Rhapsody on the Hedong (Hedong Fu), it is written: The unevenness of the Southern Nest. The commentary notes that it is pronounced like he.
