Pronounced kua. Beautiful. Interchangeable with the character kua. Kuaxiu refers to beautiful moral conduct. From Qu Yuan, Lament for the South (Lisao): If my inner heart is indeed beautiful. Also: I alone possess this beautiful integrity.
Pronounced xu. Beautiful appearance.
Pronounced qu. Extravagant.
Pronounced hu. From Songs of Chu (Chuci), Nine Songs: Blowing the chi flute and playing the yu flute, thinking of the spiritual treasure that is virtuous and beautiful. Dancing lightly like a kingfisher bird, spreading scrolls to dance together. One interpretation states that a disposition that is not upright or virtuous is called kua.
Pronounced ke. From Bao Zhao, Rhapsody on the Dancing Crane: Treading the wondrous path is now remote, and accumulated spiritual offerings are many. The cry of the outstretched neck is slender and melodious, the resting long toes are grand and beautiful.
Pronounced ku. From Songs of Chu (Chuci), Great Summons: Red lips and white teeth, beautiful and lovely. Virtuous and approachable, fond of refined leisure, accustomed to elegance.
