Explanations of Names (Shiming): Foot (jiao) means to retreat (que). It is so named because when one sits, it is placed to the rear.
Book of Odes (Shijing), Minor Odes: When the feet are swollen and sore (Shimen commentary): Swollen refers to the shin and foot.
Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing): The Country of Long Thighs is located north of Xiongchang, with disheveled hair. Another account says it is the Country of Long Feet.

Commentary: Guo Pu says: To grasp the foot.
