Zi Collection, Page Position: Upper. Radical: Line (gǔn). Jiè. Kangxi Stroke Count: 4. Page Number: Page 79, Number 07. Guangyun: Initial gǔ combined with final bài. Jiyun: Initial jū combined with final bài. Pronounced as jiè. Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi): Wild grass. It resembles the appearance of grass growing in a scattered and disordered manner. All characters belonging to the radical jiè are derived from jiè. Note that according to Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters, jiè is different from féng. Féng means to mutually block or shield vital parts, and its pronunciation is similar to hài. The Lexicon (Zihui) mistakenly treated jiè as féng and transferred the explanation of féng from Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters into the entry for jiè, which is incorrect.
