Pronounced jiao.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to the white color of jade or stone. According to the Extensive Dictionary (Guangyun), it is the appearance of white pearls and jade. Also, according to the Jade Compendium (Yupian), it means white. According to the Extensive Dictionary (Guangyun), it means bright.
In the Book of Odes (Shijing), Kingdom of Wang, it is written: Like the bright sun.
It also means clear or distinct. In the Analects (Lunyu), it is described as clear. The commentary notes that it refers to the clear rhythm and cadence of music.
It also describes the bright, sparkling appearance of stars. In the History of the Wei (Weishu), Biography of Zhang Yuan, Viewing the Constellations Rhapsody, it says: The Three Terrace stars shine brightly, arranged in pairs.
It is also a surname. During the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, there was a person named Jiao Shengguang, a person from the north.
According to the Jade Compendium (Yupian), this is the same as the character pronounced jiao.
