History of the Later Han (Houhan shu), Biography of Confucian Scholars: Emperor Shun, moved by the words of Zhai Pu, renovated the school buildings. In total, two hundred and forty wings and one thousand eight hundred and fifty rooms were constructed. From this time on, traveling scholars increased to over thirty thousand.
Cai Xiang, Ode on Recognizing a Confidant (Shi shen zhiji fu): Far away from the sage era, I began my studies at the village school.

Commentary on the Water Classic (Shuijing zhu): The Lai River flows north passing east of Little School, and flows east passing south of Great School; this is likely the place where Huo Yuan once taught and lived. Xu Guang stated: Although a millennium has passed, the names of the two schools remain.
