Yin Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Bow (gōng) Page 356, Entry 17 According to the Expanded Rhymes (Guangyun), Collective Rhymes (Jiyun), and Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), the pronunciation is hong (level tone). According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to the sound of a bow. Also, according to the Er Ya: Explication of Glosses (Er Ya), it means great. The commentary states that hong means the greatness of inclusion and tolerance. In the Book of Changes (Yijing), regarding the Hexagram Kun, it is said, Containing greatness and brightness. Also, according to the Rectified Rhymes (Zhengyun), it means to make great. In the Analects (Lunyu), it is said, A person can make the Way great. Also, it rhymes with gong, pronounced hong (level tone). In the Poem for Younger Brother Yun by Lu Ji, it is said, Embracing and gathering the rare and precious, planting the jade-like pure wind.
