History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), Biography of Confucian Scholars: Emperor Shun, moved by the words of Zhai Pu, had school buildings rebuilt. In total, two hundred and forty chambers and one thousand eight hundred and fifty rooms were constructed. From then on, the number of traveling scholars greatly increased, reaching over thirty thousand students.

Commentary on the Classic of Water (Shuijingzhu): The Lai River flows northward past the east side of the Lesser Hong, and eastward past the south side of the Greater Hong. This is likely the place where Huo Yuan lived in seclusion to teach. Xu Guang said: Although much time has passed, the names Greater Hong and Lesser Hong are still preserved.
