You Collection, Middle Volume. Radical: Valley (gǔ). 11 strokes. Page 1189, Entry 10. According to the Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui), it is the same. It also refers to a loud sound. In the Model Sayings (Fayan) by Yangzi, when someone asked what a loud sound is, the reply was: it is not the sound of thunder or a lightning strike, but a deep, grand, and resonant sound. It is also used interchangeably with the character for grand (hóng). In the Biography of Sima Xiangru in the History of the Former Han (Qianhan shu), it refers to lofty and grand discourse. The commentator Shigu says: hóng means deep. In the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), it is written as hóng.
