You Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Wine (yǒu) Kangxi Strokes: 12 Page 1282, Entry 02 Tang Rhymes (Tangyun), Collection Rhymes (Jiyun), Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui), and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun): Pronounced han. According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to drinking wine with abandon. Xu states it means drinking wine harmoniously and to one's full satisfaction. The Jade Compendium (Yupian) states it is taking pleasure in drinking wine, though not yet reaching the point of being intoxicated. In the Classic of History (Shujing), specifically the Instructions of Yi (Yixun), it describes indulging in wine and singing within the room. The commentary states that taking pleasure in drinking wine is called han. In the Strategies of the Warring States (Zhan Guo Ce), Lord Pingyuan set out a wine banquet, and when the spirit of the wine was at its height, he rose to present a thousand pieces of gold to toast Lu Zhonglian. The Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui) notes that the common pronunciation of hu gan is incorrect. Additionally, according to the Collection Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced kan.
