Correct Meaning Guide (Zhengzitong) states: Children who eat too many sweets are prone to suffering from gan disease. Gan disease is categorized into five types, corresponding to the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys. To treat gan disease, one must first distinguish whether it is a cold condition or a hot condition, and whether the patient is obese or emaciated. When the illness first manifests, it is often hot gan accompanied by obesity; if the illness persists for a long time, it develops into cold gan accompanied by emaciation. The accumulation of various forms of gan disease can lead to abdominal distension, visible blue veins, sallow complexion, and physical wasting, sometimes accompanied by abdominal pain. Consuming toads boiled with scallions and Sichuan peppercorns is an highly effective treatment.
