Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters): The light of the moon when it is not yet full.
Book of Documents (Shangshu): On the day of bingwu, the fei.
Commentary: Fei ming, the name for the moon on the third day when the light begins to appear.
Also pronounced pei.

Huainanzi (Treatise on Astronomy): The sun ascends to Fusang, where it begins to travel; this is called fei ming.
