Pronounced bi. A small basket.
Lei Pian: A device for catching fish.
Yangzi: Fangyan: Small ones are called lou in the Southern Chu region. From the pass to the west, in the lands of Qin and Jin, they are called pai.
Note: Nowadays in the region east of the Yangtze River, baskets are called pai.
Guangya: Pai is the same as this. Also called lou, also called yao, also called [variant form].
Also, pronounced pai. A large wooden raft.
Biography of Cen Peng in the Book of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu): Gongsun Shu dispatched his generals Ren Man, Tian Rong, and Cheng Fan, leading several tens of thousands of men, to board square rafts (fangpai) and travel down the river, where they defeated Feng Jun, Tian Hong, and others.
Note: Fangpai are made of bamboo and wood and float on the water. Guo Jingchun says: These are rafts on the water.

Textual research: In the Book of the Fangyan by Yangzi, it says small ones are called lou in Southern Song; however, according to the original text, Southern Song has been corrected to Southern Chu. In the Biography of Cen Peng, according to the original book, Former Han has been corrected to Later Han. Where Guo Jingchun says these are bamboo rafts on the water, according to the original text, the word for bamboo has been corrected to raft.
