According to Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun) and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced bin. It refers to the bank of a body of water. In the History of the Former Han (Qianhan Shu), Records of Emperor Cheng, it is written as the region bordering the river. It is also synonymous with bin. In the Book of Documents (Shujing), Tributary of Yu (Yugong), it is written as the wide expanse of the sea shore. The Geography Section of the History of the Former Han (Qianhan Shu) uses the form bin. According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is also pronounced bin. The meaning is the same. In the Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it is originally written in this form.
