Pronounced zheng (rising tone).
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), this is an alternative form of the character zheng, with the radical derived from the character deng.
In the Huainanzi (Huainanzi), Zilu rescued a man who had fallen into the water and accepted a cow as a reward. This character is also written as zheng.
Furthermore, according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced zheng.
It is also pronounced zheng; for a detailed explanation, see the entry for the character zheng.
Additionally, it is pronounced cheng, which is identical in sound to the character cheng. It shares the same meaning as the character cheng.
As referenced in the poem by Han Yu, Stone Tripod Couplet (Shi Ding Lian Ju): It is far superior to precious ritual vessels like the sacrificial grain vessels, yet it possesses only an empty, oral reputation. Could it be that these ancient ritual vessels are not meant to be touched by hand?
