In the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), and Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui), it is pronounced zhang. In the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), it is also pronounced zhang.
In the Extensive Rhyme (Guangyun), it is described as the yuzhang tree. It is also written in the variant form zhang.
In the Rhapsody on the Sir Fantasy (Zixu Fu) by Sima Xiangru: Its trees are the red sandalwood and the yuzhang.
The commentary by Shigu states: The yuzhang are two types of trees; only after seven years can they be distinguished.
In the Record of Proper Rites (Douweiyi): When a ruler's governance and legal proceedings are impartial, the yuzhang tree flourishes.
Also a commandery name. In the Rituals of Han Officials (Han Guan Yi) by Ying Shao: The Yuzhang Commandery was named because these trees grew in the courtyards.
Also in the Materia Medica (Bencao): The diaozhang is a smaller variety of the zhang tree.
