Pronounced zào
According to the Explaining Graphs (Shuowen), it is written as zào, meaning fast or rapid. Current common practice distinguishes it as zào, which is incorrect.
According to the Explanation of Names (Shiming): zào means dried out (zào). When things are dry, they move and fly about.
Book of Changes (Yijing), Commentary on the Appended Statements: The words of restless people are many.
Book of Rites (Liji), Monthly Ordinances: The noble man practices abstinence, and when residing, he must cover his body and be not restless.
Note: Restless (zào) signifies movement.
Also, from the Discourses of Qi (Qiyu): Arrogant, restless, licentious, and violent.
Note: Restless (zào) refers to being agitated.
