Pronounced yang. Yuan-yang (mandarin duck) is a bird that lives in pairs. According to the Jingchu Ji (Record of Jingchu), the yang is also known as the jiemu bird. There is also a purple yuan-yang, which is an alternative name for the crested shelduck (xichi). Additionally, the yellow oriole is sometimes called the yellow yang. There is also a type of roof tile referred to by this name. In the poetry of Su Shi, it is written: The tile plays with the cold toad, the yang rests under the moon. This character is also used in personal names. For example, Liang Yang appears in the Liezi. Wen Yang appears in the Book of Jin (Jinshu). Pronounced yang. The meaning is the same.
