Xun Xi replied, To make the dead return to life and the living not feel ashamed, that is the proof. It also means to examine or inspect. In the History of the Former Han (Qianhan), in the biography of Yang Yun, it is stated that Yun was sent to the commandant of justice, Yu Dingguo, for interrogation, and the evidence was made clear. The commentary notes that evidence refers to witnesses, meaning those who were present at the time and saw the event. According to an imperial edict during the reign of Emperor Ping of the Former Han, those who were to be examined were questioned on the spot. The commentary notes that this refers to questioning someone at their place of residence. The common forms of this character are considered incorrect.
