Mao Collection, Upper Volume Radical: Heart (xīn) Character: 怴 Kangxi Strokes: 9 Page 382, Entry 24 According to the Sound Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced yue. According to the Forest of Characters (Zilin), the appearance of being foolish. One source says it is the appearance of being angry. Note: this character is similar to the character composed of heart and sù, which has the pronunciations xiu, bi, xuan, and lie. This character is composed of heart and yuè, and only has the pronunciation yue. The Sound Rhymes (Jiyun) makes the distinction very clear. Recently, dictionaries have confusedly listed them together, citing one and discarding the other, and the Corrected Dictionary (Zhengzitong) concludes that it is one character possessing two meanings and that there are not two separate characters; this is also a subjective assumption.
