According to the Five Tones Classified Collection (Wuyin Leiju), this is a common variant form of the character for son-in-law (xù).
According to the Examination of Variations in the Nine Classics (Jiujing Kaoyi), the Record of Marriage (Hunyì) in the Book of Rites (Liji) states: The son-in-law holds a wild goose and enters. Lu Deming notes: In some versions, the character for son-in-law is written as this character.
Also, in the Calligraphy by Wang Xizhi (Wang Xizhi Nüxu Tie): I choose you to be my son-in-law.
Note: Yan Yuansun states in his book of characters for office seekers, Correction of Character Forms (Ganlu Zishu): Among the three variants for son-in-law, the first is a common form, the second is in general use, and the third is the standard form.
