You Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Walk (zǒu) Entry: zi Kangxi Stroke Count: 11 Page 1215, Entry 27 According to the Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui), this is the character for fresh, which was originally written as xian in the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi). It is also written as zi. In the Ancient Text Book of Changes (Guwen Yi), it is recorded: zi bu ji yi. The Correct Meaning Thoroughly Investigated (Zhengzitong) states that this is an erroneous form of the character xian. The character xian in the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi) is formed from the elements for correct and few, and is not derived from the radical for walk.
