Yupian defines it as a tool similar to an iron shovel. Ximan Congxiao records that the Gulang Yao and Gelao peoples perform a dance called dancing with the xian, which involves dancing with long-handled wooden shovels accompanied by musical beats. Fangyan records that in the Qingzhou and Qizhou regions, things one loves in their heart are called xian. Bencao records that xiliancao (a type of herb) has another name, huoxian. Jiyun states the pronunciation is qian. It is a type of drainage tool.
