The term jiu xiu describes the appearance of a dragon extending its neck while walking. Recorded in the Biography of Sima Xiangru within the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), "The sudden movement and the jiu xiu." The Sound and Meaning of the Han Dynasty History (Hanshu Yinyi) states that jiu xiu describes the movement of stretching the neck, lowering the head, and then lifting it. Zhang Yi says that jiu xiu means to leap. Additionally, according to the Classified Chapters (Leipian), it is pronounced xiu, with the same meaning.
