According to Tang Rhymes (Tangyun), pronounced xiao. According to Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), pronounced he xiao, pronounced yao. Name of a river. According to Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), the river rises in Jingxing, Shiyi, Changshan, and flows southeast into the Zhi River. Also the name of a river in Pei Commandery. According to Former Han Geography Treatise (Qianhan dilizhi), there is a Xia County in Pei Commandery. The commentary states the Xia River rises there and flows south into the Huai River. Xia is pronounced yao. Also, Si-xia is the name of a river in Jizhou. According to Former Han Geography Treatise (Qianhan dilizhi), in Mianman County of the Zhending Kingdom, the Si-xia River originates from the Great White Canal, flows east, and enters the Yellow River at Qiao. According to Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced ju xiao, pronounced jiao. Also pronounced hou jiao, pronounced xiao. The meaning is the same.
