History of Tang (Tangshu), Biography of Han Yu: Bowing the head and submitting, trembling with fear, peeking stealthily. Annotation: Xin-xin describes the appearance of fear. Xian-xian describes the appearance of peeking. Sometimes also written in a variant form (xian).
