Guangyun and Jiyun state the pronunciation is xian.
Yupian defines it as a tool similar to an iron shovel.
Ximan Congxiao records that the Gulang Yao and Gelao peoples perform a dance called dancing with the xian, which involves dancing with long-handled wooden shovels accompanied by musical beats.
Fangyan records that in the Qingzhou and Qizhou regions, things one loves in their heart are called xian.
