Jade Chapters (Yupian): Mourning garments. Sometimes also written in a variant form (mian).
Book of Etiquette and Ceremonial (Yili): The various hosts wear the mian in the chamber. Commentary: In the current text, all instances of mian are written as mian.
Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan): The crown prince was made to wear the mian. Commentary: The mian is the garment worn when first announcing a mourning period. Also refers to the rope held when offering condolences.
Gongyang Commentary (Gongyangzhuan): When offering condolences, that which is held is called a mian.
