Chou Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Woman (nǚ) Character: Mei Kangxi Stroke Count: 12 Page 267, Entry 27 Broad Rimes (Guangyun), Collected Rimes (Jiyun), and Dictionary of Rimes (Yunhui) define it as pronounced wei (falling tone). In Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it states that the people of Chu refer to a younger sister as mei. In History of the Tang Dynasty (Tangshu), Biographical Section on the Imperial Clan, it refers to Princess Tong'an as the younger sister born of the same mother as Emperor Gaozu. The term mei-mei is a variant phonetic pronunciation with the same meaning.
