Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen): The lingering sound of thunder. It resonates with a ringing quality, serving to urge all things to grow. The character is formed by the radical for rain and the phonetic component for court.
Yupian (Yupian): A thunderbolt.
Erya (Erya): A swift and fierce thunder is called tingni.
Book of Changes (Yijing): Using thunder and lightning to stir all things into motion.
