Ancient form. Tang Rhymes (Tangyun) and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun) pronounce it ting (rising tone); Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and Rhyme Assembly (Yunhui) pronounce it ting (rising tone).
Shuowen Jiezi states: A small boat.
Explanation of Names (Shiming) states: A boat of two hundred hu capacity or more is called a ting.
Expanded Rhymes (Zengyun) states: A boat that is small and long.
Yangzi Dialects (Fangyan) states: A small ship is called a ting.
Huainanzi, Treatise on Truth (Chuzhen Xun) states: A Shu ting is a boat made of a single plank, similar to those from Yuzhang today.
Old Poems (Gushi) states: The boatman rows with two oars, urging the boat to bring Mo Chou.
Also, in Rhyme Supplement (Yunbu), it is pronounced ting (level tone).
Old Music Bureau (Guyuefu) states: Along the river there are one hundred zhang of tracking lines, each wetting adds to one boat. The boatman going upstream carries his pole, when will he arrive at Jinling?
