According to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), it is the same as the character tai. Sometimes written in a variant form.
In the Western Metropolis Rhapsody (Xijing Fu) by Zhang Heng: There is a gentleman who relies on the void, with a heart seeking excess and a body seeking ease.
Note: Referring to a heart that is extravagant and indulgent, and a body that is haughty and idle.
