As stated in the Explanation of Names (Shiming), it describes a color similar to that of an insect, green and glossy. According to the Commentary on the Quick Literacy Primer (Jijiu Pian), ti is now referred to as plain silk cloth. In the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Biography of Fan Ju, it is written: He took a silk robe and bestowed it upon him. The commentary notes that it is what is now called coarse silk, and the sub-commentary adds that it refers to the coarse robes of the present day. In the History of the Former Han (Qian Hanshu), Annals of Emperor Wen, it is written: He wore a robe of dark red silk.
