Pronounced shun (falling tone). The action of the eyes blinking of their own accord.
Liezi (Liezi), Tang Wen Chapter: Ji Chang studied archery under Fei Wei. Fei Wei said: You must first learn not to blink, and only then may we speak of archery.
History of Song (Songshi), Biography of Han Shizhong: The blinking of eyes is as fast as lightning.
Pi Ya (Piya): The rose of Sharon (mùjǐn) flower blooms in the morning and withers in the evening; it is also called shun. It is likely that the meaning of the word shun is derived from this.
Lu Ji, Exposition on Literature (Wenfù): To observe the past and the present occurs in a mere moment, and one feels that the four seas are also contained within a single blink.
Sima Fa (Simafa), Yan Wei Chapter: Regarding the prohibition of a person, do not let it exceed the fleeting time of a single blink.
Yu Pian (Yupian): The same as the character shun (variant form).
