Pronounced xiao. Same as the instrument xiao. Xiangxiao is a musical instrument held by dancers. Zuo Zhuan (Zuo Zhuan), twenty-ninth year of Duke Xiang: Jizi observed the music and saw those dancing the Xiangxiao and Nanyue, and said: It is beautiful, yet there is something missing. Commentary: Xiangxiao is what is held during the dance. Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen) states: The music of Emperor Yu Shun is called Xiaoshao, while the Book of Documents (Shangshu) writes it as Xiaoshao.
Also pronounced shuo. Xunzi (Xunzi), Rites Discourse chapter: The martial music of Huanxiao is like this. Commentary: The name of a dance tune. Zhang Heng, Western Capital Rhapsody (Xijing Fu): Flying arrows and shuo, flowing arrowheads. Commentary: Shuo is pronounced shuo. Feisuo-xiao refers to the shape of the arrow. Yupian (Yupian) states: To strike people with a pole.
Also, Dictionary Supplement (Zihuibu) notes: The commentary on Xiangxiao in Zuo Zhuan was originally pronounced shuo, which is different from the pronunciation of Shaoxiao, except that Sima follows the pronunciation suojiao.
