Compendium of Rhymes (Jiyun), Rhyme Meetings (Yunhui), and Rectified Rhymes (Zhengyun) state the pronunciation is shen. The name of a deity. In the Inner Chapters of Zhuangzi (Zhuangzi), specifically the section on Mastery of Life (Dasheng pian), it is written: There is a shen in the hills. The commentary notes: It is shaped like a dog with horns, and its body bears five-colored patterns. It is pronounced like zhen. Furthermore, the Compendium of Rhymes (Jiyun) lists the pronunciation as zi shen, with the same meaning. According to the Collection of Characters (Zihui), it was mistakenly categorized as a beast name due to the Compendium of Rhymes (Jiyun). This has now been corrected.
