Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Treatise on the Balancing of Standards (Pingzhun shu): Criminals sometimes steal the inner molds of copper coins and take the smelting molds.
Xu Guang says: The method of smelting vessels is called rong.
History of the Former Han (Qianhan shu), Treatise on Food and Money (Shihuo zhi): Smelting and casting using charcoal.
Commentary: Rong means to mold. It refers to making coin molds.
Dong Zhongshu, Strategies on Worthy and Good (Xianliang ce): The ruler's influence on the people, and the people's compliance with the ruler, is like metal in a smelting mold; it is only for the smith to shape.
Also Wide Rhyme (Guangyun): Rong means to cast.
