Pronounced rong.
A type of mallow (kui). According to the Record of Strange Tales (Shuyiji), the rong mallow originates from the Hu region; it resembles a mallow but is larger.
Also refers to a type of bean (shu). According to the Book of Liezi, Strength and Destiny Chapter, offering these beans provides the flavor of rice and millet.
Also, according to the Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), the reduplicated form rong rong denotes a thick or substantial appearance.
Also a surname. According to the Comprehensive Treatise on Clans (Tongzhi), in the Record of Official Clans of Henan, the Rongjuan clan changed their name to the Rong clan.
Also used interchangeably with nong. In the Book of Odes (Shijing), Shao South section, the phrase asking why those are so lush is written with the character rong in the Han version of the Odes (Hanshi).
