According to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Rhyme Dictionary (Yunhui), pronounced ying (level tone); according to the Orthodox Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced ying (level tone). Ling-ying describes the deep and secluded appearance of a mountain.
Also, according to the Extensive Dictionary of Rhymes (Guangyun), pronounced hong (level tone); according to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced hong (level tone). Zheng-ying describes a mountain that is high, steep, and precarious.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), this was originally written as rong. According to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), it is sometimes written in the variant forms (ying) or (hong).
