Pronounced qìng.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to a vessel that is empty inside. It is the ancient form of the character for a chime stone (qìng).
In the Book of Odes (Shijing), Small Odes (Xiaoya), it is written: "There is nothing that is not appropriate." The commentary states that qìng means exhausted or empty.
In the Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan), Duke Xi, 26th year, it is written: "The rooms were as empty as a hanging chime." The explanation of characters notes that qìng is also written as the character for a chime stone, meaning exhausted or empty.
Also, in the Lost Book of Zhou (Yi Zhoushu), it says: "The army was spread out in an orderly manner." The commentary notes that this describes a state of being self-disciplined and orderly.
Also, per the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced qǐng. The meaning is the same.
