Broad Rimes (Guangyun): Qiuyu is a type of wild beast that looks like a fish, with a tail like a snake and eyes like a pig. It feigns death when it sees a person.
Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing): On Mount Yuo, there is a wild beast shaped like a rabbit but with a bird's beak, an owl's eyes, and a snake's tail. It feigns sleep when it sees a person. Its name is Qiuyu. Its call sounds like its own name. When it appears, there will be a locust plague.

Textual research: Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing): On Mount Yuo, there is a beast that sleeps when it sees a person, named Qiuyu. Its cry is its own name. Corrected to read as qiu according to the original text.
