Pronounced mou.
According to the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), the term qiu mou refers to a creature resembling a crab but larger in size. According to the Extended Records of Miscellaneous Matters (Xu Bowuzhi), the qiu mou is extremely powerful and capable of fighting a tiger; its pincers are strong enough to cut through and kill a person. Also, according to the Erya (Erya), in the section on explaining insects, it is referred to as mo he, dang lang, or mou. The commentary states: mo he is also known as dang lang or mou.
Textual research: In the Erya, section on explaining insects, it is written as mo he, dang lang, mou. Per the original text, the character lang has been corrected to lang. In the Dialect (Fangyan) by Yangzi, the dang lang is sometimes called ding mou. Note: In the original text of the Dialect, there is no mou character under the entry for ding; the text has been corrected to read: commentary notes mo he is also known as dang lang or mou.
