Tang Rhymes (Tangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun) state it is pronounced mi.
Guangyun states it refers to a bamboo mat used to cover the floor of a carriage.
Book of Rites (Liji): The sovereign’s carriage uses a mi made of lambskin, bordered with tiger fur. Commentary states: Mi refers to a mat covering the floor of the carriage. Te refers to the border trim. This is an adornment for the sovereign's fasting carriage.
It is also used interchangeably with the character.
Rites of Zhou (Zhouli): Wooden carriages use rushes for shade and dog skin for the floor covering. Commentary states: Quan refers to the use of dog skin to make a mat for the floor of the carriage.
