Pronounced mei (falling tone). According to the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), Jiyun, and Yunhui, the pronunciation is the same as mei. In the Dialect (Fangyan) by Yang Xiong, it refers to filth. In the region of East Qi between the seas and Mount Tai, some people say mei. In the Mencius (Mengzi), it means how can you slander me. Also, according to Jiyun, it is pronounced man. One interpretation suggests it describes water flowing gently. In the Book of Odes (Shijing), Beifeng section, it refers to the river flowing slowly.
