Archaic script. According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun) and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced lu; according to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and Rhyme Anthology (Yunhui), pronounced lu, pronounced lu (rising tone).
In the Explanation of Script and Elucidation of Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it means slow of speech.
In the Analects of Confucius (Lunyu), it states, "Shen is slow (lu)." He Yan comments: Lu means dull. Zengzi was by nature slow and dull.
Also, a state name. In the Preface to the Odes of Lu (Lu Song Pu) of the Book of Odes (Shijing), it states, Lu is the site of the ruins of Shaohao Zhi.
In the Treatise on Geography from the Former Han (Qianhan Dilizhi), it states, When the Zhou dynasty rose, it enfeoffed Bo Qin, the son of the Duke of Zhou, as the Marquis of Lu at the ruins of Shaohao, which was Qufu, to serve as the Duke of Zhou's heir.
In the Explanation of Names (Shiming), it states, Lu means dull or slow. The country has many mountains and rivers, and the people are by nature simple and slow.
Also, a surname. According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), descendants of Bo Qin took the state name as their surname, originating from Fufeng.
Also, there is the double-character surname Lubushi.
